it's harder then you think, you need to read up on how to hatch chicken eggs. just google

'chicken eggs hatching care sheet'

if this is just for a science project, you do realise that once hatched you will have to look after them for quite a few years, do you actually have a place that you can keep them once there big? and have enough to feed them whilst there chicks and adults? and do you have a brooding box?

if not, i'd think twice about hatching chicken eggs for a science fair project.

you can make your own chicken incubator with a polystyorine box (that you can probably pick up free from a meat or fish shop) or a cooler box.

buying a bulb holder with a plug on the end, and a thermostat, i used a thermostat from a aquarium heater that had a thermostat probe, i then cut the wire to remove the fish tank heater, and placed the bulb holder on it.

i then placed the bulb into the polystyorine crate/box with a small 5w bulb, and put in the heat probe on the opposite side, put the eggs in and left them (i was incubating reptile eggs). you will have to turn the eggs on occasion.

once they have hatched, you will need a brooding box, this is a warm box. you can use a large plastic storage box with holes, and a light bulb inside to keep the chicks warm.

you will also need water trays and seed trays for the chicks.

and you can get fertile eggs on ebay search 'chicken hatching eggs'
References :
hello. so, i am new ...
hello. so, i am new to chicken keeping. tomorrow i am putting the cedar shakes on my chicken ark, similar to the one you have but much larger, and i am wondering about nesting. can the chickens nest in herb pots. the ones i am thinking about using are about 16 inches across, 6 inches tall, round and shaped like a large soup bowl. they are clay with a shiny earth glaze on the out side. if i put some hay in them will the chickens live in them. thx

What you tend to ...
What you tend to find is that the chickens like to huddle together in groups. They will sleep almost anywhere, Id try it and see how they get on and then rearrange if it doesnt work. Good luck with them.

I love the ...
I love the innovation on this ark of the hinged bottom door, but I can't tell from this video or the other one where your ventilation is. I finally found a builder who almost replicated your original "chookery" for me. We had trouble over on this side of the pond finding reasonably priced tongue and groove cedar, but eventually it all worked out. Thanks again for your wonderful videos. ~ Alexis from California

It's all in the way ...
It's all in the way the ordinances are interpreted. Our city ordinances (not Chicago) say we can't have chickens. But the code enforcement officer I spoke to said that he considered chickens to be birds, not livestock. Who knows how another one of the code enforcment officers would interpret it.

Sorry, that should ...
Sorry, that should have read that the city ordinances say we can't have "livestock," not chickens. Chickens are not specifically mentioned.
